Sir, I was glad to see Hubert Beales' plea (Letters, September 15) for some form of 'buggy' transport to convey people along Cornmarket and neighbouring streets.
Over 20 years ago now you published a plea from me for Oxford to introduce electric carts which would (at a slow pace) carry about ten shoppers, tourists and so on between, for instance, St Giles and the High Street, the Plain via Carfax to the railway station, and so on. People would just hop on and hop off as they wished.
Instead of an imaginary engine, which so many cities around the world have on their little electric trains, the front would be in the shape of a red ox, more suitable for our city.
This idea, which I hope is not a lost cause and which I continue to put forward from time to time, was displayed at the recent exhibition of visions for Oxford 2015 at Modern Art Oxford. I should be glad to provide further information for anyone interested.
