Councillor Keith Mitchell is just being xenophobic by suggesting no more county council leaflets are printed in any language other than English.
He forgets that people who speak Polish, Urdu, Bengali, French, Swahili, Farsi, and so on, are council tax payers too, and that not everybody can read English.
When Labour stopped funding English classes, hundreds of low-income families, and especially their elderly members, became unable to empower themselves by learning to read, write and speak English.
When we learn other languages it gives us a richer view of the world and is physically good for our brains. We could all do with embracing at least one other language.
The majority of Brits who travel abroad typically expect everyone to speak English.
Why is Cllr Mitchell in his leading role one of those who are so terrified of our wonderfully rich multi-cultural society?
