Leys residents have been given a unique opportunity to leave a lasting impression on their Oxford estates.
The recently-renamed Leys Community Centre has launched a competition to design its new logo.
It is open to all residents and the finished product will go on signs, advertising and the website of the former Blackbird Leys Youth and Community Centre.
The three best designs will be chosen by representatives from the community centre and Oxford City Council before facing a public vote.
Centre officer Paula Williams said: “This is all about getting support for the new community association and trying to get a good link with the community.
“We haven’t really had any active community associations for a number of years.
“One thing we identified with the old centre was the separation of Greater Leys and Blackbird Leys and we wanted to get away from that.
“So the centre is being renamed the Leys Community Centre.”
As part of the shake-up, Oxford City Council is sprucing up the building and putting up new signs outside.
Ms Williams said: “We want to engage the local people from the outset, so hopefully this will encourage them to get involved.
“We want everyone to be represented and this is the first step.”
She added: “The person who wins will have their design on buildings and on all our headed paper and the website once it’s up and running.”
The logo will also appear on the Jubilee ’77 Community Centre in Sorrel Road.
Ms Williams said: “This is going to be a lasting legacy for the winner and their families.
“In years to come, they’ll be able to say to their children ‘I designed that’.”
The competition closes on Friday, October 14, at 5pm.
Designs in a jpeg format can be submitted via email to bblca@btconnect.com.
Post entries should be sent to The Leys Community Centre in Blackbird Leys Road, OX4 6HW.
