Oxford illustrator and designer Joanna Isles Freeman has died aged 57.
The founder of The Powder Room boutique in Summertown, which opened in 2006, passed away on September 30.
She first came to the city to be interviewed by Radio Oxford’s David Freeman on his afternoon book programme.
Her book A Proper Tea is an illustrated celebration of the traditional English afternoon tea ceremony. The radio conversation led to the couple marrying and setting up home in Shipton-on-Cherwell. They have two daughters Amy and Harriet.
Mrs Isles Freeman studied at Glasgow School of Art and then worked as a graphic designer at the BBC in London, before becoming a freelance illustrator.
She had several children’s books published including The Happy Prince, The Selfish Giant and The Child’s Garden of Verses.
She was commissioned by Buckingham Palace to design a range of china for the gift shop, and went on to design her own successful range.
Her funeral will take place tomorrow at 3pm at Holy Cross Church in Shipton-on-Cherwell.
