This first round League Cup match was played in the hottest conditions seen for many a year, probably the first time an October match has been attended by so many spectators in shorts!
The first match was an entertaining affair with good football played by both sides. Oxford City had a strong spine running through their team and were able to take a two goal half time lead, despite the outstanding efforts of the Supergiants goalkeeper. The second half was more balanced but City extended their lead with a third goal and some committed defending by City kept the Supergiants out. The first match finished 3-0.
The second match was closer. Both sides were showing excellent technique and attitude, leading to a very competitive match. City again took an early lead but Supergiants fought back to equalise before half-time. City cam on strongly in the second half and scored a second goal, which proved enough to secure victory despite the best efforts of the Supergiants.
Overally, Oxford City were deserving 5-1 winners and progress to the second round of the cup.
