THE streets of Didcot are set to come alive with performance, poetry and song, inviting people to view the town from a different perspective.
The Living Word Walks take to the streets today and tomorrow courtesy of the town’s Cornerstone arts centre to offer shoppers and visitors street entertainment with a difference.
Inspired by The Globe’s Shakespearean Sonnet Walks, and devised in association with The Theatre, Chipping Norton, groups of 10 to 15 people will set off from Cornerstone with guides on a 90-minute walking route around the town.
As they progress, they’ll discover secrets, with actors popping up to deliver live theatre, poetry and song.
Poems, songs and impromptu performances will take place at a wide range of destinations — shops, clubs, tourist attractions and private houses.
Similar walks staged in Chipping Norton proved a great success, and tickets for Didcot’s version are selling fast.
Rebecca Mordan, who leads the actors taking part, said: “These walks are all about secrets and the unexpected.
“We find people fall in love with their town all over again.”
The walks, which are suitable for all ages, will be leaving from the Cornerstone box office every 15 minutes – today from 4pm to 6.15pm, and tomorrow from 12.15-2.30pm.
Tickets are available from the Cornerstone box office, by calling 01235 515144 or at cornerstone-arts.org
