1st Match The 3rd game of the season got off to a good start with both teams being fairly even opponents.
Archie Brew set up Sam Cheshire’s first goal of the match with two passes up to the end of the pitch, putting the Challengers in the lead. Abingdon upped the pressure but were prevented from scoring by the Challengers defenders Oliver Butterworth and Jack Stock. Archie Brew set up a second goal for Sam Cheshire taking the score up to 2-0.
Shortly after Sam Cheshire had a third attempt at goal but Abingdon’s goalie was not having any of it and made an excellent save. As the game went into the second half Abingdon upped the pressure on the Challengers but they couldn’t get through the Challengers defence with some strong passing from Archie Brew and Jack Blake. Jack Cross took a corner for the Challengers and passed to Sam Cheshire who went on to score his third goal.
With continuing pressure from Abingdon Jack Blake took a corner and passed to Archie Brew who shot the ball in the net taking the Challengers lead to 4-0.
Archie Brew then went onto set up a goal for Jack Blake and just minutes from the end of the match Archie Brew managed to score the Challengers sixth goal with the match finishing 6-0 to Grove Challengers.
2nd Match The Challengers started the first half of the second match well, putting Abingdon under pressure with Jamie Dawson almost scoring but the ball was saved by Abingdon’s goalie.
Abingdon chased the ball down the pitch and go for goal but goalie Ben Hadley, made an excellent save for the Challengers. The teams continue to be evenly matched and despite pressure from the Challengers, Abingdon score, shortly followed by a second goal from Abingdon, taking the lead 2-0.
With the Challengers feeling under pressure, Abingdon go on to score their third goal. As the game goes into the second half, the goals keep coming for Abingdon despite the Challengers best efforts, with some excellent football from Jamie Dawson and James Stock. The match finished 7-0 to Abingdon Yellows.
