PUBLIC sector cuts are debated every day but you have to wonder how much more fat there is.
If today’s story about the barmy decision to drive prisoners from Banbury Police Station to the court next door because of human rights is typical, then the Government surely must be targeting the wrong sectors.
This decision is so lacking in common sense that you question the competency of any public official involved in it.
Let’s debunk the first myth put up by GEOAmey: prisoners are driven those few footsteps because they have a right to have their identity protected.
No they don’t. The adults are appearing in an open public court and their names, ages and addresses will be read out in almost every case.
And while this may be a private contractor, it is still funded by taxpayers. GEOAmey would have factored in such work as part of its tender bid to the Government (plus an element of profit on top) so we are ultimately paying for this nonsense.
When the Government is pinching pennies elsewhere, how can waste like this be allowed?
