A serious sporting accident sparked an Oxfordshire man to put his business idea into action.
Edward Catling ruptured his spleen playing cricket earlier this summer and ended up spending three days in hospital.
The accident left him wanting to make the most out of life and now he has created an app for students in Oxford to make the most of their experience in the city.
The new app, dubbed Unicity, has been launched by Mr Catling and his friend James Marshall.
It aims to provide new and seasoned students with everything they need in the city.
A mobile phone application, also known as an app, is software which can be used on small handheld devices such as smartphones.
Mr Catling, 23, who lives in Gagingwell, near Woodstock, said: “I had been thinking about it for around seven months and had contacted a few developing companies.
“When I ruptured my spleen two months ago it was quite scary. It made me realise that I have to grasp things.”
The free app features a guide to student friendly nightspots, shops and venues, and lists events taking place in Oxford.
The friends launched it in time for Oxford Brookes University’s Freshers’ Week this week and are now looking to expand it beyond Oxford.
Mr Catling said: “I am really glad it is all coming together.
“We have been working solidly to get it ready. It has been hard work and a lot of late nights.”
