MORE signs have been put up to warn drivers of a road closure after a resurfacing scheme near Kingston Bagpuize caused confusion.
Oxfordshire County Council yesterday put up more notices warning drivers of the closure of the A415 Kingston Road from Frilford to Kingston Bagpuize.
The road shut on Monday and some drivers complained there were not enough warnings or alternative route guides.
Kingston Bagpuize Parish Council member John Smith said there was only one road closure warning put up by Millets Farm Centre in Frilford two weeks before the works began.
He said a further sign by the Hinds Head pub was put up on Sunday.
He said: “Most people did not realise roadworks were taking place with the one sign. It certainly was inadequate signage.”
The road was expected to be closed until Friday but an Oxfordshire County Council spokesman said the road was due to reopen last night as the work had finished ahead of schedule.
Melinda Tilley, Vale of White Horse District councillor, said: “I must say it is not very clear if you do not know the way around it.
“It is causing a few early-morning problems for motorists.”
Oxfordshire County Council spokesman Owen Morton said: “Some concerns were raised that there wasn’t sufficient signage advertising the road closure at Frilford.
“Additional signs were added.
“We’re sorry for any confusion caused.”
