Sir – As many people will know, the repatriation of Royal Marine Sergeant Barry Weston took place on September 8; the first from Brize Norton in four years.
I, with many others gathered at the A40 entrance to Cutteslowe Park on the northern bypass to pay our respects as the cortège passed, as we have in the past.
Previous cortèges have slowed down at the points on the journey to the John Radcliffe where people have gathered. That did not happen this time at Cutteslowe Park entrance. It passed by at some 40mph. Those waiting were very upset that they had not been allowed to pay their respects to a fallen serviceman as they had on all previous occasions. It is very sad if this was a directed change of cortège procedure.
