Cumnor Minors went into this game against the league leaders wanting to earn their first 3 points of their campaign, having drawn against Oxford Blackbirds last week.
They started the game brightly with a lot of possession and crisp passing. After only two minutes, Lukas Ffrench tested Botley's goal keeper with an early shot which he managed to parry.
It was 1:0 soon afterwards though - Nathan Spielhofer, playing on the left wing, crossed the ball into the area and after a classical goal mouth scramble, Lukas Ffrench managed to squeeze the ball over the line. Botley almost found an instant reply, crossing into the area dangerously, but Samuel Down managed to smother the ball and clear his area.
The second goal for Cumnor followed shortly after - Nathan again provided the assist, crossing the ball into the area and Jack Daly fired the ball into the roof of the net from the edge of the area.
The game continued at the same frantic pace with Cumnor enjoying lots of possession. Two minutes later it was almost 3:0, but Jack only managed to hit the post. It looked like it was going to stay 2:0, but just before half time, Nathan Spielhofer, went from provider to goalscorer, dribbling past three Botley players and hitting a shot that eluded the defence and goalkeepr and flew into the corner of the net.
The storm clouds had been building for most of the first half and the second half started with a strong rain shower. Playing in the rain, Botley looked like a different team, playing with a lot more determination than in the first half and almost grabbed a deserved goal.
But once again Samuel Down came to the rescue. Cumnor Minors counter-attacked and the Botley defence found themselves up against three Cumnor attackers. Once again Nathan did his magic, weaving past a couple of defenders and hitting a lovely shot into the top right corner of the goal - 4:0. With that Botley - who had managed to grab a win in their last game from being 3:1 down - seemed to crumble and Cumnor went up two more goals to 6:0 shortly after via two clear penalties. The first was despatched by Louis Davies after being felled in the area, the second by Jack Daly who had been similarly upended.
The final score of 7:0 was complete shortly after that with Nathan grabbing his third, with a deft flick of the boot after a well timed pass by Louis.
