Yes, the Mustang fitted with Allison 1,100 HP engines was unsuitable for combat, but when the Rolls Royce Merlin engine was fitted in the Mustang, it was a different matter.
A super fighter of WWII, the air frame was of British design, the successful engine was British. The only American part of the craft were the stars on the wings.
