PRINCE William has backed a campaign by an Oxfordshire teacher to raise £1m for forces charities.
Alix Hodge’s Ten for Ten campaign aims to raise the cash for army rehabilitation centres by 10am on October 10 to mark the first 10 years of the conflict.
The campaign, launched in the summer, is calling on all schools in the country to hold a red, white and blue day on October 10 to raise cash for Help for Heroes and Army Benevolent Fund The Soldiers’ Charity.
There will be 10 days of fundraising across the UK in October to mark ten years of the conflict in Afghanistan.
Mrs Hodge, from Appleton, a teacher at Cothill House School, was inspired to act after her artist husband Marcus was commissioned to paint a picture by 3rd Battalion The Rifles, who are based in Edinburgh.
Prince William said: “As president of the Football Association and a serving member of our armed forces, I am delighted to offer my support to the Ten for Ten Campaign.”
Mrs Hodge said: “We are thrilled to have Prince William’s support. I hope this wonderful gesture persuades sportsmen and women and the general public to dig deep.”
