AN Oxfordshire secondary school has honoured its talented pupils for the second year with a professionally published anthology of their artistic endeavours.

Woodstock’s Marlborough School has compiled Paper Tigers II to showcase pupils’ best poetry, prose, drama and art.

Editor Liz Riman, head of Key Stage 5 and an English teacher, said: “It showcases the talent of some of our children. The idea is they will be inspired by seeing their work in print and continue their writing or artistic habit.”

The 40-page book has been professionally published and bound, with an initial print run of 100.

Some 45 pupils from Year Eight to Year 13 contributed, with the artists working with writers to illustrate their pieces.

Mrs Riman said: “It’s amazing quality, really fantastic stuff. The idea is that this will be something students can take with them to interviews and courses.”

Wootton’s Megan Dyer, 12, contributed the poem Simply Butterfly.

She said: “I was really surprised and also quite proud that my piece was picked.

“I love writing poetry and although I'm only 12, I hope I will continue to write more and I might even get published again.”

Bart Turner, 17, from Yarnton, produced a painting which accompanied Rose Walker’s piece Nothing Comes From Nothing.

He said: “It’s been a confidence boost to see my work published and fascinating to see the interplay between the art and literature”.

The £10 book is available from the school, Woodstock Book Shop, Woodstock Library and The Oxfordshire Museum.
