A NEW £890,000 children’s centre has opened in Southmoor, near Abingdon.
The centre, in the grounds of John Blandy Primary School, has been funded by Oxfordshire County Council and will be run by charity Spurgeons.
It will share the building with Southmoor pre-school, which previously used the village hall.
About 400 under-fives will use the building for play while parents can get advice and support.
Centre manager Lorraine Hurdley said: “Children’s centres offer support to vulnerable families and provide play activities for the whole area — we want to focus on educating parents and children together.”
Sue Butler, county council senior locality worker for children and families, said: “This building is essential.
“Working with children and families at such an early age undoubtedly improves their futures.”
