SCHOOL pupils in Didcot and Wallingford are being offered the chance to see top children’s films for free for National Schools Film Week.

It is the largest film festival for schools in the world, and will see screenings at Didcot Cineworld and the Wallingford Corn Exchange.

This year the theme is Engage, Empower and Explore, and organisers Film Education hope to teach and inspire children through the power of film. The idea is the films will link directly to elements of the curriculum, supporting learning back in the classroom.

Film week in Didcot will run from Thursday, October 13, to Friday, October 21, and seven films will be on show, including Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, Cars 2, Rio, and 127 Hours.

While in Wallingford, two films will be screened, Rio on Monday, October 31, and Winnie the Pooh on Tuesday, November 1. Julie Meadows, a teacher at St Laurence Primary School, Warborough, near Shillingford, said: “One of the benefits of attending Film Week is that it advances film literacy among students, provides them with a positive film experience, while they are also given the chance to do follow-up work in class.”
