THE eyes of the cheese world were on Churchill, near Chipping Norton, for one of the biggest dates in the cheese calendar.
The British Cheese Awards saw 900 cheeses from across the country being judged by 55 experts.
Among those being judged were 750 vegetarian cheeses, 117 cheddars and 56 blue cheeses.
Chairman Juliet Harbutt said: “It was really great, a lovely day on the village green, which we haven’t done before.
“Winning a medal here really means something to the cheesemakers and winning one will see their sales go up.”
The awards started in 1994 to raise the profile of British cheeses.
Mrs Harbutt said: “The quality of cheese has improved over the years, you get some really good winners.
“The whole idea was to raise the profile of British cheese. I got so frustrated with retailers and restaurants not realising the extraordinary choice and diversity of cheese in this country.”
