I FEEL I have to defend hard-working Councillor John Tanner from the criticisms levied by people who accuses him of double-speak and of not doing enough for recycling.
A couple of years ago many residents in our area of East Oxford were extremely worried about a parking zone that would be very costly, as well as adversely affecting 39 local businesses.
Indeed some businessmen felt that their livelihoods were at stake if the scheme was to go ahead.
This money-spinner was instigated by local Green Party councillors without prior consultation of any of the local businesses.
John Tanner came to the rescue like a knight in shining armour. He was brilliant.
He gave up lots of his own time. He is a great leader.
He gladly helped people of all political persuasions, which is in stark contrast to the Green party councillors, who will not even say hello if you have not voted for them recently. John Tanner really does have a heart of gold and puts a tremendous amount of effort into his duty as a public servant. Oxford is fortunate to have so many political stars running the council.
There really is a plethora of genius and hard workers such as Keith Mitchell, David Rundle, Graham Jones, Ed Turner, Antonia Bance and many, many more.
They are all doing a great job in times of austerity.
