Scorers were as follows: - Botley FC: Jack Crozier (3), Azaan Hussain (2). AFC Brightwell: James Moore (3)
A tightly contested game was played out between Botley FC and AFC Brightwell on Saturday at the Fogwell Rd Recreation Ground. Botley took the lead in the 2nd minute through Jack Crozier, scoring from a rebound after a penalty had been awarded. Brightwell came back strongly and had a few chances to score as Botley struggled to get out of their own half. Brightwell deservedly equalised through James Moore and the scores were tied at 1-1 going into half-time.
Brightwell started the 2nd half well, taking the game to Botley and took the lead with Moore grabbing his second goal. Moore then quickly secured his hat-trick from the penalty spot as Brigthwell took advantage of a shell-shocked Botley to extend their lead to 3-1. Botley regrouped and found a way back into the game after Azaan Hussain came off the bench to score with his first touch. Crozier equalised and then bagged his hat-trick with a well placed low hard shot which gave the goal-keeper little chance to make it 4-3. Brightwell fought hard to level the game up and were only denied an equalizer by Botley goalkeeper Tom O'Leary who pushed a hard shot over the bar to preserve his team's lead. The game flowed with chances for both sides before Hussain broke free late in the game to slot past the goalkeeper and secure the points for Botley. Both sides played the match in the right spirit and were a credit to their clubs.
