AS a long-standing member of Carterton Town Council, I have listened to all the repatriation comments.
From these it is quite clear to me, that the people of Carterton wanted the cortege to come through our town.
Young and old alike are totally upset over the East gate being used, about which we can do absolutely nothing.
Carterton has been accused of not being interested, not bothering, and so on. This is, I can assure all, totally untrue and very hurtful.
No one has commented about all the extra work laid on our superb town clerk and her team, who have dealt with everything in their usual extremely efficient manner.
Ladies from Carterton U3A and WI are providing refreshments and Carterton Lions are organising all the parking.
I feel it is high time it was made quite clear that Carterton, with its close links with RAF Brize Norton, is totally behind the repatriation arrangements which have had to be accepted.
I call on everyone to forget all their differences and concentrate on paying our respects to our gallant forces personnel who have made the supreme sacrifice for us all.
Councillor MRS DEE BULLEY, Carterton Town Council, Swinbrook Road, Carterton
