Fundraisers took the plunge to raise thousands of pounds for toddler Charlotte Nott.

Thirty-nine people braved a 200ft bungee jump from a crane outside the Priory pub near the Kassam Stadium.

The event, ahead of Oxford United’s game with Burton on Saturday, was in aid of three-year-old Charlotte, who developed meningococcal septicaemia in December and had to have all her limbs amputated below the joints to stop the virus spreading.

Among the jumpers was Steve Sullivan, whose terminally ill daughter Tess was taken to the hearts of Oxford fans when United played Accrington Stanley in August 2010.

Supporters in Oxfordshire have since raised more than £4,000 to send her on a trip-of-a-lifetime cruise.

Mr Sullivan, from Accrington in Lancashire. He said: “The Oxford fans have been so superb to Tess and my family and I just thought it was the least I could do to give something back.”

Mr Sullivan, who raised more than £500 for Charlotte, added: “It was the first time I’ve done a bungee jump and it seemed a lot higher when you got up there.

“I was a bit nervous up the top but I really enjoyed it.”

Charlotte’s dad Alex said: “I was blown away by it, the whole family were.

“That people were willing to do something which was one of the scariest things they’ll ever do was incredible.

“I was very touched by it and I can’t thank the people of Oxford enough.”

The Priory is hosting fundraising events throughout the season to help buy prosthetic legs for Charlotte, whose family were treated by Oxford United to a corporate box for the match.

Landlord Tim Rackley said a collection at the event raised £500 on top of jumpers’ sponsorship.

He added: “I reckon we could have raised about £5,000 by the end of October.”
