Two men died when the car they were travelling in left the road and burst into flames.

Emergency services were called to the A4130, near Bix in south Oxfordshire at 4am on Saturday, right.

The men, who police said were “local”, had not been formally identified last night and officers are appealing for anyone who may have seen the blue Toyota Celica in the area.

Sgt Jack Hawkins said: “It’s fair to say we believe we know who they are and we are working with two families at the moment, but we have still got to positively identify them and then determine who was the driver.

“There’s no evidence to suggest this was anything other than a single-vehicle incident.”

He added: “The two people involved were local.

“They were certainly travelling from Henley towards Oxford. They came out of Henley and over the bridge on the A4130 towards Nettlebed. They were heading to one of the men’s homes in the Nettlebed area.”

He said the families were from Reading and Surrey.
