Thieves made off with “a considerable sum” of money after cutting into shop’s cash machine.
Four men are thought to be responsible for the raid on the Co-op store in Bloxham High Street at 1.45am on Saturday.
They used an angle grinder to cut into the ATM before stealing the cash cassette boxes inside.
Villagers were putting the sum was around £50,000, however this has not been confirmed.
Police spokesman Chris Kearney said: “The burglars, believed to be four men, then left the scene with the cash cassettes at high speed in a dark-blue Audi along the A361 in the direction of Chipping Norton.
“The men all had large builds and were wearing face coverings.”
Pc Bryn Smith said: “I would like to speak to anyone in the area at the time, who may have seen the break-in or heard anything suspicious.
“I would also like to speak to anyone who may have seen the Audi leaving the scene, or saw it in the area after the break-in and saw where it went.
“The exact amount of money stolen is unknown at this time, though it is believed to be a considerable sum.”
Anyone with any information should contact Pc Smith on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
