THE message was clear – Andy was off to Canada and his colleagues wanted to wish him well.
In fact, they seem to have gone to great lengths to give him a rousing send-off.
Not only was the Canadian flag on display, his mates had built a model ship to bid him Bon Voyage.
The farewell took place at the Cowley car plant, probably at Morris Motors.
Andy (we do not know his surname) is presumably the man wearing the cap and holding his present on the right.
The only man we can positively identify is the man shaking his hand.
He was Fred Knight, who worked in the stores and was a shop steward.
Mr Knight’s daughter, Amanda Pratley, of Garsington, found the picture among her family belongings.
However, she has no idea when the picture was taken, or the names of any other people in it. Any ideas?
