THE Princess Royal paid a visit to Oxfordshire to mark several historic anniversaries.

She first visited Charlbury yesterday to help celebrate the town's 750th anniversary of being granted a Royal Charter, allowing a weekly market and annual street fair to be held.

After her tour, she sign the museum's visitors book, before moving on to the Corner House, to meet local councillors, members of the street fair committee, who organise Charlbury's annual September street fair, representatives from the community, Arts Society, and Charlbury churches.

She also had the opportunity to view a display put together by the Arts Society about Charlbury street fair, which this year has a Royal Charter theme, and takes place today.

Then she travelled to Abingdon as part of the 450th Royal Charter anniversary celebrations. She also visited Abingdon School which is marking its 750th birthday.

She watched as town councillors and Freemen hurled 450 currant buns from the top of County Hall into the Market Place. She was watching an event that her mother saw when she visited Abingdon in 1956 during the 400th Royal Charter celebrations.
