I, with the vast majority of British people, totally agree with the opinions expressed by Edward Woollard (Oxford Mail, September 5).

Why build more and more houses for immigrants, when we can't even supply the basic facilities for our own (water, for example)? The press and politicians try to convince us that these immigrants are helping the economy by doing jobs that British people refuse to do.

Rubbish. They are doing jobs for a great deal less than British people would do and making lots more profit for employers, not the country.

Secondly, while one member of the immigrant family may be working, how many more are sitting at home doing nothing, draining the benefits that the British people have paid in for over many years? Why do you think our health service is in such dire straits?

Whereas it used to be the envy of the world, it is now a laughing stock.

So many people are taking advantage of it, when they have contributed nothing towards it, that the whole system is on its knees.

You featured a woman with six children, with no husband to provide for her, demanding that Oxford City Council "must find us a house". What is it coming to?

Our own youngsters cannot get council houses, but immigrants can demand one.

This Government has a great deal to be ashamed of, in that it has closed schools, hospital wards, whole hospitals, post offices and many more facilities, but opened our borders to anyone who wants to come in, and work for peanuts, all in the name of profit for the bosses.

Legal and illegal immigrants are here in their hundreds of thousands, let in by a Government which has no idea of how this inflames disgust and anger among British people.
