NEW social jogging groups have been launched through a South Oxfordshire District Council fitness scheme.

The council’s Go Active project has launched the ‘Just Jog’ groups led by qualified jogging leaders in Didcot, Wheatley, Benson and Thame.

The latest group started in Checkendon and meets at the Village Hall on Wednesday evenings from 6.30-7.30pm.

From Monday, September 12, a new group will run from the Henley River and Rowing Museum at 6.15pm.

And a group for Garsington mums will meet on Tuesdays at 8pm at 131 Oxford Road.

Bill Service, cabinet member for leisure, said: “Jogging is a fantastic way to improve health and fitness, but it can be hard to start.

“The Go Active Just Jog groups provide everyone with the opportunity to start jogging in their local community, regardless of age, ability, or background."”

Go Active co-ordinator Hendriette Thorn said: “We have groups at various venues and times, all led by someone with a passion for running, who enjoys motivating others to start and continue jogging, but with the emphasis on the fun and social side.”
