CHINNOR fell to an agonising 34-30 home defeat to Hertford in National 3 South on Saturday.

Having recovered from 24-5 down at half-time to lead 30-24 with six minutes to go, they looked to have pulled off their second successive dramatic comeback.

But some sloppy play eventually allowed Hertford winger Richard Justice to cross over in the corner with stoppage time beckoning.

Chinnor trailed 24-5 - Johan de Bruin scoring their try - before two Richard Williams penalties made it 24-11 with 20 minutes to go.

Richard Grimsdell, Paul Hennessy and de Bruin then put Chinnor 30-24 ahead, Williams adding two conversions, before a late Justice try, along with a conversion and penalty from Robert Colborne proved crucial.

Henley ran in five tries in a rampant second-half to defeat Harrogate 39-7 at Dry Leas in National Division 2.

Andy Henley ran in a hat-trick of tries as Oxford Harlequins came from behind to secure an impressive 34-34 draw at Mounts Bay in South West 1.

An under-strength Quins side trailed 19-0 and 24-5, but showed tremendous character to come back against one of the title favourites.

They even saw Andy Noyce's conversion, which would have won the game, shave a post.

Owen Gustaffson, Elio Recchia and Beau Wilson scored Quins' other tries, with Noyce adding two conversions.

In Southern Counties North, there were wins for Witney, Grove and Chipping Norton, while Bicester came from behind to beat Abingdon in the Berks, Buck and Oxon Premier Division.

A Joe Roff hat-trick helped Oxford University to a 35-28 victory over Doshisha University in the first match of their Japanese tour.

Playing in temperatures of more than 95 degrees in Kyoto, the Blues scored five tries with Winston Cowie and Doug Abbott also crossing over.

Roff capped his day with two conversions.
