I COME from Oxford but have lived in the South of England for the past 40 years.
I visited Oxford city centre for the day this week and was so disappointed to find that I was visiting another ‘clone’ city centre in that the majority of the shops are chains.
Where have all the individual privately-owned shops gone? Obviously the beauty and history of the city is great to see but I guess that it is the cost that deters private enterprise.
I do hope that the city council can look at this situation and find solutions as a variety of retail outlets can only enhance the Oxford city shopping experience and bring more money into the town.
