CHILDREN were following in the footsteps of their sporting heroes in Oxford yesterday.
A Fun Olympics competition was organised by the Play Barton scheme and dozens of children were put through their paces.
Competing in the long jump contest was nine-year-old Kyle Tattersall, from Barton.
Mum Wendy Tattersall said: “He’s a really sporty person and he’s been looking forward to it for ages.
“He likes the running a lot, but he did a bit of everything. He had a great time.”
The Bayards Hill Primary School pupil said: “It was fun.
“My favourite event was probably the javelin. I did well at it.
“I do lots of running at school and lots of my friends were there.”
Oxford City Council board member for parks and sports Mark Lygo said: “It’s great to see kids getting out and about, being inspired by the Olympics.
“It’s all about getting outside and improving their health and wellbeing.”
