OXFORD Academy has asked for the re-marking of “dozens” of exam papers, with principal Mike Reading saying he was “disappointed” with the school’s results.

The three-year-old academy, which moved into its state-of-the-art new buildings earlier this year, will not publish its GCSE results until it has challenged grades given for art and design, English and science GCSEs by several exam boards.

Mr Reading said: “Sometimes when a school asks for re-marks it is putting off telling the full story, but we have got subjects that we need to have quite a dramatic look at to see what has happened.

“Some have been taught by the same members of staff for a number of years and have always been statistically strong.

“Suddenly that has changed, and that has left us with some questions for the exam boards. I believe there is at least one other school in the county that has got an issues with a subject as well.”

He added: “I am disappointed with many of the results. What I am pleased about is the achievement of many students, and it is good that many want to stay at the academy and continue past 16 reglardless of this situation.”
