IN the letter of mine you kindly published on August 19, I stated that I was ignorant of the causes of riots and looting which recently beset some of our cities.

Thanks to the other contributors on that day, however, I now realise that they were the fault of politicians, bankers, police, journalists, foreigners, society, Richard Dawkins and Charles Darwin.

May I express my heartiest gratitude to all concerned for clearing that one up, but, for some strange reason, I keep pondering the remark of Vicente Blasco Ibáñez that “man accepts as logical and reasonable everything that tallies with his own egoism, placing it before reality”.
