A woman has criticised police after yobs vandalised six cars in Rose Hill.

Clare West, of Sorrel Road, Blackbird Leys, is furious with the way police reacted after her car was one of six damaged outside the Rose Hill Family Centre, in Ashurst Way, on Tuesday night.

Ms West had just finished a First Aid course at the centre at 8pm when she discovered her car and those of five other people on the course had been vandalised. Her front driver's side and passenger's side doors had been kicked in and her windscreen shattered.

She said she reported the incident to the police immediately and expected them to come out to take fingerprints but 24 hours later she had still not been visited by an officer.

Ms West said: "Thames Valley Police is failing every single one of us. How can these people just do this in no hurry at all? It just goes to show that they knew the police would not show up.

"After the police were called they did not seem bothered, in fact no police officers came out at all which I find most frustrating. Every single car had footprints all over them. They could at least try to catch these low lives."

Police spokesman Victoria Bartlett said scenes of crime officers had been tasked to investigate but she was unable to give any information about exactly what they done.

One frightened Rose Hill resident, whose car was also smashed up, said: "In the last six months things on the estate have got really terrible. It's got so bad I am moving away."

Patricia Scott, who works for Surestart, was also in the family centre last night.

She added: "I have an overwhelming feeling of disappointment because there is a lot of things going on to try and get the community together to be supportive and develop services in the area.

"We mustn't forget that the majority of young people are decent, good people."

The cars smashed up were a green Citroen Xsara, a silver Suzuki Ionis a grey Peugeot 607, a silver Rover 400, a blue Vauxhall Vectra and a red Citroen Saxo were all smashed in while parked next to the family centre in Ashurst Way.

Nothing was taken from any vehicle.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the vandalism which is believed to have taken place between the hours of 5pm and 8pm on Tuesday evening.

Anybody who saw anything is asked to call the police on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
