Sir, I find it extraordinary that the leader of the Conservatives on the Vale of White Horse District Council chooses to share a cosy alliance with the leader of the Labour group on Oxfordshire County Council to jointly attack the Liberal Democrats (Letters, September 8).

Indeed, so upset are they that they mention us six times in their joint letter.

What a pity, therefore, that they didn't check their facts first. Fact - our member of the corporate governance scrutiny committee who they refer to for not attending a meeting had not received notification of this meeting, so hardly deserves attacks for not attending.

Another fact - I had every right to draw attention to our and Unison's concerns regarding the building to be used for the location of shared services.

Indeed, far from speculating on choice of locations, the building was named on the county council's own internal website and all members of staff, the unions and councillors had been informed about it. Or were they hoping to keep this under wraps?

And, finally, if the Tory and Labour groups are so close together in their policies that they need to join together to rally against the Liberal Democrats, then I believe your readers can be in no doubt as to who is the real opposition in today's politics.

Zo Patrick, Liberal Democrat leader and leader of the opposition, County Hall
