What possible justification can there be (Mail 11th September) to charge people to park outside their own front doors? This is especially true for residents in Littlemore and Blackbird Leys. We have an excellent match-day only parking scheme for residents.
But local people didn't ask to have the football stadium built next to them and should not have to pay for their parking permits. The County makes a thumping profit on its parking metres in the centre of Oxford, even without charging in the evenings. The Council Tax is high enough and should cover any costs for residents' parking.
It's one thing to charge for residents' parking in affluent Henley. It's quite another to add to residents' financial burdens in Littlemore and Blackbird Leys.
David Cameron gives us lots of warm words. This plan to charge for residents' parking in Oxford shows the Tories haven't changed their spots. It's daylight robbery.
