Oxfordshire GT racer Jamie Derbyshire was unable to repeat last year's success in the 2006 Britcar 24-Hour race at Silverstone at the weekend. However, the Spirit Motor Group-backed racer made his mark on the event by setting the fastest lap of the race.
Derbyshire had headed into the event as one of the pre-race favourites, alongside his 2005 race-winning driving partners of Martin Short and Nick Jacobs in the Rollcentre Racing Mosler MT900R.
Short managed to put the 7.0-litre machine on to pole-position for the twice-round-the-clock race, giving the team the best start possible. However, in the opening hour of the race, after leading in the early stages, the car developed a fuel starvation problem, which eventually blighted the team throughout the entire race.
Derbyshire said: "Obviously I'm disappointed that we were unable to repeat the win from last year. When the car was running on song it was unbelievably quick and if we had had the reliability from last year I honestly think we would have won the race again.
"It was good to set fastest lap as it proved that we had the pace to challenge for the overall lead again and it allowed me to leave my mark on the race this year."
