NUMBER 16 in Tawney Street, a much sort-after street, on Oxford’s Morrell Estate, has been put up for sale because work is needed to be done on it before it can be let.

The council waited nearly six months to decide on this – all that time losing rental income.

Its plan now seems to be to get the money by sealed bid and use it to build a new council house elsewhere.

The house is likely to be bought as a buy-to-let, as the council is asking for cash bids.

But why should council tenants be deprived of the chance to live here?

Who profits? The relatively well-off.
