UNION JACKS waved proudly across Oxfordshire yesterday as communities gathered to celebrate the marriage of our future King and Queen.
About 200 parties took place in the county’s streets, village halls, and pubs after the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Villagers in Upper Heyford took the opportunity to raise cash for Save the Children after selling afternoon tea and raffle tickets at their party.
Parish councillor Alison Graham said: “It has been about getting together and celebrating a special occasion and raising money for a really good cause.”
Ava Thornley, five, added: “I liked the Princess. She looked very pretty. She was beautiful.”
In Abingdon, Winterborne Road was sealed off while residents enjoyed ferret racing, welly wanging, face painting, and a visit from town mayor Duncan Brown.
Visitors to Blenheim Palace were treated to a jousting display and Morris dancers entertained people in Woodstock’s Market Square.
Residents had a street party in Davenport Road in Witney and Manor Road Memorial Park in Wantage was full of entertainment and activities.
Parties were also held in Cumnor, Marcham, South Moreton and Appleton.
