Devlin delights devotees in denying Chalgrove
Kidlington keeper Archie Devlin signed off in style as he played his last ever official match for the green army prior to concentrating on his rugby career next season. With Chalgrove threatening in the second game he made a number of excellent saves, the pick of them a flying effort to tip a goalbound piledriver onto the bar and over. He even swapped shirts with centre forward Thomas Anderson in the last few minutes in an effort to finish with a goal, but the fairy tale ending was not to be.
Team mate Anderson had earlier scored the most remarkable goal of the day. He inadvertently got in the way of a piledriver from team mate Abu Yillah, which knocked him to the ground. Ever alert however, with the ball still bobbling in the area, he sprang to his feet and brilliantly backheeled it into the corner of the net. He later made it up to Yillah by setting him up for Kidlington's fifth and final goal in a 5-1 victory. Kidlington's other three goals in this game came from the ever-impressive captain Luca Sykes, with one fine solo effort and two assists from Yillah. Harry Rees beat Anderson late on to score Chalgrove's consolation goal.
Kidlington also scored five and had a hat-trick hero in the first game, winning 5-2. Callum Rolfe scored three in a dynamic display and unveiled some impressive goal celebrations too. Rolfe also provided the corner from which Jamie Slevin headed home Kidlington's fourth. Slevin in turn had provided the pass from which Ben Owen scored Kidlington's first from close range. The home side's two goals were both well taken by Will Monks.
Both sides were missing several players, but Kidlington demonstrated the strength in depth of their squad with an ultimately comfortable victory, finishing the league in 3rd place having scored 144 goals in just 18 games, with over 50 between Rolfe and Sykes and 11 different goal scorers across the teams.
