It is rare for our health workers to be criticised. Their work, for relative small pay packets, is invaluable.
The systems in which they work, however, seem to leave a bitter taste in the mouth.
Last month we reported on the returning problem of bed blocking at Oxfordshire’s hospitals.
Despite pledges to improve a situation which spiked last year – it was getting worse.
And, today, the Oxford Mail reports on the issue of mixed-sex accommodation in the county’s hospitals.
Once again we come bottom when it comes to breaching of the rules.
More people wind up in areas shared by the opposite sex than anywhere else in England. This is a big issue.
We are frequently called by concerned relatives who feel uncomfortable about the situation when a family member is being treated.
Admittedly, many of the problems in this county centre on day case areas.
But, from today, the hospital will be fined for all breaches.
It admits more needs to be done. And it does. We will monitor their progress.
