Thousands queue up for major exhibitions, and the newly transformed Ashmolean Museum in Oxford is aiming to take advantage of this trend with its new temporary exhibition galleries.
Next month it will showcase more than 500 Greek treasures of gold, silver and bronze, recently found in the royal burial tombs and the palace of Aegae, the ancient capital of Macedon.
The director of the Ashmolean, Christopher Brown, right, will lead a series of tours as part of the Oxford Literary Festival next week, two of which are already sold out. He will also join a discussion on April 8 with Manuel Fontån del Junco of the Fundación Juan March in Madrid.
Dr Brown will explain how the Ashmolean’s new programme will develop, looking at the elements that will shape and influence its content and presentation.
The two experts will discuss what will determine and define successful exhibitions of the future.
On Sunday, April 10, Dr Brown will join a second discussion at the festival focusing on innovation and design in museum collections. The festival is from Saturday, April 2 to Sunday, April 10. See www.oxfordliteraryfestival.com, box office 0870 343 1001.
