So, what happened? Earlier this year we were assured the county’s bed-blocking problem was easing.
But no, it is once again approaching the level which sparked concern in October last year.
And, it seems, nobody really wants to take responsibility.
Our hospitals should not have to deal with patients – at a cost of £500 a day – who are well enough to leave the ward.
Cuts, cuts, and more cuts, mean finances and resources are stretched enough as it is.
Today the Oxford Mail reveals only Birmingham has a worse bed-blocking problem in the country.
How have we come to this?
Councillors are lining up to call for action and it is action we need.
Somebody needs to take responsibility.
It seems, once again, Oxfordshire folk are left with a shoddy service.
Primary schools are struggling and there doesn’t seem to be enough home care for people who need it.
And, at risk of sounding too gloomy, what is waiting around the corner with the spectre of more cuts?
We will be keeping tabs on the county council and the health service to make sure drastic steps are taken to improve this bed-blocking crisis.
