I believe Midsomer Murders should be more representative of the real world – but not for reasons of ethnicity or political correctness.
Midsomer should represent actual policing, with uniformed officers scruffy, surly and terminally incompetent, armed with speed guns and traffic tickets.
Barnaby would continually mumble, in his inimitable manner, about paperwork and about the force being undermanned.
DS Hughes would be an unpleasant moron similar to Troy in the books from which the series is derived, and both Barnaby and Hughes would have a near zero detection rate.
Within a few episodes, the inhabitants of Causton would lose their patience with these idiots, and, through time travel, bring Agatha Christie’s Hastings, Poirot and Inspector Japp from the 1930s, in order to get some competent detectives.
In addition, there would be some cultural diversity: Poirot is of course, Belgian.
