AN OXFORD college has put three historic properties in the city centre on the market for £6m.

Cherwell College, which teaches about 150 A-Level and GCSE students, was founded in the 1970s by Paul and Diane Gordon.

The couple, who are planning to retire, have now put the college’s listed buildings in Paradise Street and Paradise Square up for sale.

The Master’s Lodgings, a three-storey Grade II listed building dating from the 17th century, is being offered with the Grade II listed Cloisters, on the opposite side of the courtyard, for £3.5m.

The nearby Grade II listed Friary, in Paradise Square, is on the market for £2.5m. It was originally built as St Ebbe’s Rectory in 1868.

Mrs Gordon saidsaid: “We started the college almost 40 years ago. My husband is 61 and it is a matter of us wanting to retire.

“Our main hope is that it will be bought by someone who will continue with it as a college and take it forward.”
