LECTURERS at the county’s biggest college went on strike yesterday.
Members of the University and College Union at Oxford & Cherwell Valley College staged the one-day action in protest at changes to their pensions.
The union said about 60 per cent of teaching staff at the college, which has sites in Oxpens Road, Blackbird Leys, Bicester and Banbury, took part in the strike.
At Oxpens Road, about 20 staff with placards formed a picket line.
UCU branch chairman Roy Bentley said changes to pensions would leave lecturers out of pocket by £36,000 over the course of their retirement.
College principal Sally Dicketts said: “The strike action has had a minor effect on classes today. We were well-prepared and so kept any impact on our students to a minimum.”
