Rachael O’Connor gets that Friday feeling at Progressively Less Elephant at Baby Love in King Edward Street.
It’s the end of another working week and if you’re lucky enough to have that feeling Fridays are famous for, the lure of Oxford’s city lights may be too much to resist.
So, may I suggest you get your weekend swiftly on its way by paying a visit to one of my favourite haunts, Baby Love.
Tucked just off The High, this veteran venue is well loved by the city’s devoted clubbers – and it’s easy to see why.
With a whole host of eclectic nights on offer all week long, this is a venue that could stand proudly against the best in Oxford. And, it’s latest exciting offering, Progressively Less Elephant is a night you’re certainly not going to forget in a hurry – if only because of its memorable moniker.
PLE – as it’s already become affectionately known by it’s regular clientele – is the brainchild of members of Oxford bands Rocket Falls, We Aeronauts and The Gullivers. These lovely young chaps set out to fill the gap for a credible music night on a Friday in Oxford, and they’ve hit the ground running.
It’s not surprising then, that PLE is making a reputation for itself as the place to go for a cool mix of cocktails, great music and above all lots of fun.
Upstairs has an inviting comfortable atmosphere encouraging fanciful flirtations, but descend into the basement room after the Midnight hour and things really liven up.
A swift influx of post-pubbing hipsters stampede the venue and pour downstairs to be greeted by a mix of indie, pop, electronica and Motown.
Music requests are taken, but be warned: they will be gone over with a fine tooth comb.
The carefully processed soundtrack keeps the crowds pumping on the tiny dancefloor until 3am. It’s hot, sweaty, but oh so sweet.
I’ve no doubt the revellers will be returning time after time for another Friday night fix.
So, I recommend you don’t pass up the chance to start your weekend on a high at PLE’s next all-night disco party on April 15.
See you there!
