Sir – I was pleased to read your article about the imminent opening of the new building for the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies. (Report, March 17).
Just to correct one statement in the article, Richard Makepeace, the centre’s registrar, was until recently the British Consul in Jerusalem, not Cairo, and as such, responsible for representing the United Kingdom in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, including East Jerusalem.
With the many links we already have in Oxford with Palestine such as the Oxford Ramallah Friendship Association, and Pegasus Theatre’s work with Ashtar Theatre in Gaza, we are particularly pleased that Mr Makepeace is also bringing his knowledge of this area to our city.
Pam Parsons, Oxford
