IT seems fresh plans for student accommodation on top of St Clement’s car park have done little to satisfy local businesses.
The developer has revised the plans and cut the number of blocks from four to three.
It means about 70 spaces will remain out of the current 120 in a car park which is often chock-a-block on a Friday night.
St Clement’s is a bustling little corner of the city with a healthy range of pubs and eateries.
Businesses in the area, especially restaurants, have claimed the new development will be the final nail in the coffin.
And when work is being carried out it will make life even trickier for traders. For the best part of a year there will be no parking at all.
The strength of feeling from traders and local people is strong.
Yellow posters opposing the plan have become a common sight in this part of East Oxford.
We have reported on the struggles of different shopping quarters around the city.
It would be a shame if another was to be left to fight for survival.
