BY USING the term “state control” when referring to public services, David Cameron conjures up images of an almost Stalinist system.
No one suggests that every detail of these services should be centrally controlled, as advocates of privatisation would have us believe. For ‘state control’ substitute ‘oversight by the chosen representatives of the community’ and the picture is somewhat different.
